Just had the best afternoon of my life. I got to visit my son's 1st grade classroom, and we worked together through my songwriting workshop. It was pretty awesome working with such a young group. They not only did some major brainstorming, but they actually were able to understand what alliteration is and how a metaphor works. Very advanced stuff for 1st grade. I was impressed!

But the best part was seeing my son in the room, smiling right along with everyone else as we worked. And when the class voted, they picked his idea to write about. (I was so proud!).

We had to cut it short when the 'end of day bell' rang. So we didn't get a whole lot finished. But man wouldn't this make a cool jingle for a Chicago based TV show? These kids are headed for greatness. I can see it. And I hope my son's still there when it happens!

I am completely blown away! I just had the opportunity to work with a 2nd group of third graders down at Beverly Shores Elementary in Leesburg, FL. They were just as good as this morning's kids. Totally amazing kids. You should have seen them brainstorming.

The amazing thing, both these groups did all their songwriting over the internet with me. We used web-conference software and worked together while over 1000 miles apart!

But that didn't stop these kids. They nailed it. Came up with a string of powerful metaphors and built an interesting song. It started off kind of silly, withpizza dancing in the belly, but by the end it became a song about love and peace and sharing. Totally cool.

Keep your eyes on all these kids down at Beverly Shores. I predict some massive stars coming out of this group...
